More Product Information

  • Each Teaching with Picture Books custom assessment piece is carefully crafted for  every book.  The main format covers three important aspects of a balanced literacy program  --Vocabulary, Comprehension, and Writing.  Words in the Vocabulary section are chosen to combine both familiar and unfamiliar words.  The Comprehension section is created using a seven question format:  What, Where, When, Who, Why, How, and Which.  This format provides the teacher and student with both literal and interpretive questions.  Most of our answer choices are designed to make the student think more carefully about the story.  The Writing section gives the student the opportunity to write short answers and the teacher the chance to gauge sentence writing and spelling skills.
  • Our custom assessment pieces can be easily downloaded and printed out to use as hard copies for instruction, student folder samples, parent-teacher conferences, independent reading programs, and take-home reading programs.  They can also be used with the latest in educational technology, such as interactive boards, overhead document cameras, and interactive response systems.  Teaching with Picture Books does not provide any prescriptive measures for means of evaluation.  We leave it up to each educator to determine the level of success for each student, as well as any prescriptive measures.
  • Elementary educators know that using authentic, high-quality children's literature makes a huge difference in teaching reading and in motivating students to enjoy reading.  It is also well known that this age range is critical in terms of getting students to become successful readers.  We have crafted the assessments with these two factors in mind.  The Teaching with Picture Books product is a valuable, inexpensive, and time-saving tool.  As our catalog expands, we will continue to provide our subscribers with more quality assessments for the best in picture books and leveled readers.
